Safety is Our #1 Priority
Safety & Security on a Civil Rights History Journey

The # 1 priority for everyone on a Civil Rights History Journey is their personal safety and well-being. The Alliance prides itself on the attention given to all the required safety and security details on a Civil Rights History Journey.

Just how seriously does the Civil Rights Studies Alliance take the safety and security of our schools, students and travelers?

  • The chaperone policy follows the industry’s best practices standard of a 10:1 student-to-chaperone ratio. However, because schools, teachers and group leaders are able to control this aspect of the planning, these ratios are flexible.
  • On-site private (evening) hotel security is standard policy on all Civil Rights History Journeys.
  • So as to keep everyone as safe as possible, the Alliance constantly monitors CDC and US Health Department guidelines, pertinent State's Health Departments guidelines as well as the Federal Aviation Authority and National Transportation Safety Board. The Alliance is committed to communicating with all schools, students and travelers regarding any and all safety and security measures.
  • Hotels are continuously inspected and monitored for appropriate cleanliness and health safety protocols. Unless notified otherwise, all hotels have interior entrance only corridors.
  • Transportation companies are required to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • All restaurants, local guides and Tour Directors are known and qualified before they are used on any Civil Rights History Journey.
  • All services used by the Alliance are of an extremely high standard.
