The history of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States is complicated and vast. The Civil Rights Studies Alliance is dedicated to sharing this history with as many youthandadults as possible. Only through education can we expand the understanding of American culture and history.

Mr. Gaskin has devoted his career and life to educating young people at the middle school level. George was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised just outside the city in the town of Maplewood. After graduating from St. Louis Priory, a Benedictine Catholic school for boys, he enrolled at Amherst College in Massachusetts, graduating in 1991.
He spent the next 15 years teaching middle school history in Miami, Florida, 14 years at Ransom Everglades and one at the McGlannan School. In 2006, George decided to relocate to Los Angeles, California, where he joined the faculty of Harvard-Westlake School. While teaching full-time, he earned his Master’s Degree in theology at Biola University in 2009. Since August 2019, he is the holder of The Independence Foundation Chair in History at Harvard-Westlake Middle School.
